Simple Isn’t Boring: How to make style impact without overdoing it

Simple should never feel boring; it's all about striking the perfect balance.

So…what’s the Key?

Having that elevated look that leaves lasting impressions without going overboard.

Sure you want to add a little adventure to your style and stand apart from the crowd, but how can you do that in a way that looks stylish, not clownish?

It’s tough — many men will single handedly wear bold and colorful dress shirts, suits and accessories all at once because they’ve been taught that’s the key to having great style.

Wearing clothing like this isn’t the key to great style, in-fact, it’ll actually start to detract from your look and come off as eye sore more than anything.

I want to point out something important here — there are two main factors to consider when it comes to getting dressed: dressing for yourself, and second, dressing to respect the atmosphere and occasions you find yourself in.

It's vital to strike a balance between personal style expression and appropriate attire for various settings to feel confident and comfortable in your outfit choices. When you first come in contact with someone, snap judgments are made about your appearance — it’s human nature! The best thing to do is to play into these judgments and always show yourself in the best light possible.

If you step into an important meeting with an outfit that is overly distracting, it could potentially jeopardize the entire meeting. It’s unfortunate, but the person across the table thinks you don’t have it together physically, why even take the risk on investing in you?

To avoid this, never go straight for statement pieces, unless you’re really clear on how to style them. I always emphasize this to my clients whenever they are shopping solo. I know a striking print is alluring, yet without a full understanding how to dress yourself in them the ensemble can easily be ruined.

Focus your energy on having the right staple pieces before anything else. Establish a capsule wardrobe in advance by incorporating versatile pieces such as a navy or charcoal suit, polo shirt, dark wash jeans, t-shirts, collared shirts, dress shoes, low top sneakers, blazers, and casual jackets into your collection.

Once you have the full spectrum of base garments, you'll find that effortlessly creating stylish and versatile outfits is just a matter of reaching into your closet. After that, you can then branch out into carefully selected statement pieces that align with your developed sense of style — these carefully selected pieces will be the ones you can effortlessly infuse into your personal style for character and charm.
