Simple Isn’t Boring: How to make style impact without overdoing it

Simple-wear should never feel boring—it's all about striking the perfect balance with your outfits.

So…how do you create that balance?

Think simplicity.

The goal is to nail down a put-t, but doesn’t go overboard.

Sure you want to add a little adventure to your style and stand apart from the crowd, but how can you do that in a way that looks stylsih, not clownish?

It’s tough — many men will single handedly wear things like colorful dress shirts, suits and accessories all at once because they’ve been taught that’s the key to having great style.

Wearing clothing like this isn’t the key to great style at all, in-fact, it’ll actually start to detract from your look and come off as eye sore more than anything.

I want to point out something important here — there are two main factors to consider when it comes to getting dressed:

Dressing for yourself, and secondly, dressing to respect the situation around you.

It's important to strike a balance between personal expression and appropriate attire for the setting to feel the utmost confident and comfortable in your outfit.

When you first come in contact with someone, snap judgments are made about you — it’s just human nature. So in knowing that, the best thing to do is show yourself in the best light possible.

If you step into an important meeting with an outfit that is overly distracting, it could potentially jeopardize a deal with a potential client. It’s unfortunate, but if the person across the table doesn’t feel you have it together by the looks of things, why take the risk on investing in you further?

To avoid this, never go for statement pieces, unless you’re really clear on how to style them. I always emphasize this to my clients whenever they are shopping solo. I know a striking print is alluring, but without a full understanding of how to dress yourself in them, things can go south very easily.

Focus your energy on having the right staple pieces before anything else. Establish a capsule wardrobe in advance by incorporating core / highly versatile pieces such as a navy or charcoal suit, polo shirt, dark wash jeans, t-shirts, collared shirts, dress shoes, low top minimal sneakers, blazers, and casual jackets into your collection.

Once you have the full spectrum of essential items, you'll find that effortlessly creating stylish, yet versatile outfits is just a matter of reaching into your closet, grabbing pieces and knowing the outfit you create will be a hit.

After that, you can then branch out into carefully selected statement pieces that align with your developed sense of style — these carefully selected pieces will be the ones you can effortlessly infuse into your personal style for added character and charm.
