How to Dress for the Gym
Wearing the right clothes plays a huge role in getting the most out of your workout.
Discover what it takes to dress for comfort and style at the gym so you can maximize both your appearance and reach peak performance.
Pick the Right Choice of Fabric
When you’re sweating it out, the right choice of fabric can make all the difference. Going for clothing that actively supports your movements and enhances your performance can significantly boost the effectiveness of your exercises. Comfort and functionality is what’ll help you stay focused and achieve better results.
A quality t-shirt and sweatpants are perfectly fine, just to be sure you flexibility you need to conquer those workouts.
One really good material for exercising is a lightweight cotton or polyester blend. They’re highly durable, absorbent, and very breathable. Look for items that have these workhorse fabrics to make pushing at the gym easy peasy.
2. Avoid Baggy Clothing
Many times, men go for oversized clothing for it’s comfort. But drowning in excessive fabric isn’t helpful.
While getting into the groove, the last thing you want is excessive fabric that feels burdensome.
Remember when it comes to your workout gear, it's important that the fit is nice and trim, just like all your other clothing. This way, nothing is too loose to restrict movement or comfort.
4. Go with Neutrals
Go for garments in classic shades like black, navy, and charcoal.
Avoid lighter shades like white and light grey. You’re likely to perspire during your workout and these colors can spotlight sweat stains, especially if you sweat heavily. Go for darker shades like black, navy or charcoal to help mask any sweat marks.
FYI, doesn’t necessarily mean you have to limit yourself to just wearing dark colors. You can always inject a splash of color or a unique design through your sneakers to add some personality.
5. Wear Practical and Stylish Attire
When choosing your gym wear, comfort and style are both important. Avoid reaching for worn out / hole-y t-shirts and and faded or pilled sweatpants.
While full-on performance gear has it’s place, it may not be necessary. Always focus on pieces that cater your workout routine with the right blend of fabrics, functionality AND style.
