How to Create Better Outfits
It’s very common for men to face challenges when it comes to putting together a hit outfit.
Questions like these will often pop up for them:
Does this garment fit me well?
Am I choosing the right colors?
Is this right for the occasion?
These uncertainties can be intimidating, causing a whirlwind of thoughts to come up. This confusion, especially when last minute, often results in choosing outfits that aren’t really hitting the marks.
To mitigate this, find out the strategies needed for style confidence so you’re sure to look and feel your best at anytime, and in any place.
1. Know Your Bodytype
This is CRITICAL when it comes to creating the right outfits. Whether you’re heavyset or more lean, understanding how to dress to enhance your body and minimize any areas of concern is king.
For my heavier set clients, I always suggest choosing pique cotton tops as they act like an air bushing tool, smoothing out the midsection area. This helps by minimizing any self-consciousness areas, like, tummy bulge.
For those of you who are on the slimmer side, going for a pique fabric is optional—focus more on finer cotton blend tops so they won’t overwhelm the body or add any unnecessary bulk to your frame.
2. The Right Colors For Your Skintone
The right colors play a key role in your wardrobe: they have the power to enhance or downplay features.
If you have fair skin, avoid pink or red hues at all costs.
These colors will spotlight your rosy undertones to the point where you’ll look flushed and overheated.
Instead, focus on neutral shades such as white, navy, charcoal, and black that will always compliment you. These will help to enhance and highlight your features.
If you have more or an olive skintone, earth tones are your best friend. Inspiration from nature with forest greens to stone grey’s will serve you well.
Now if you have a darker skintone, medium to light colors are perfect. Just avoid any colors that are too close to your complexion, which will wash you out. However, you’ll still want to strike the right balance — don’t get caught up in wearing too many bold colors, I see this happen often with darker skin tones and it never turns out well.
3. What To Wear Depending on Occasion
Wearing clothing that’s either too casual or too formal will take a toll on your confidence and comfort levels. So you don’t run into this pitfall, find out the correct dress code, and / or observe style hints from the venue before choosing your look.
To either dress up or dress down your outfit, consider the jacket and shoes first. Blazers and sport coats can elevate and add a touch of sophistication to your look. On the other hand, something like a denim jacket or over-shirt can offer a more relaxed and laid-back vibe—great touch for any casual setting.
Something to keep in mind: evening settings will typically lean formal in dress code, and morning-to-afternoon outings will have more of a laid-back feel. Yet and still there can be unique occasions that over throw these norms.
