A Simple Guide to Dressing for a Wedding

Wedding dress codes can sometimes be a bit tricky, leaving you lost in the dark as to what to wear. No need to worry, I'm here to help you figure it all out.

Consider the event type before anything else.

Will it be black tie? formal? semi-formal or casual?

Once you’ve go that squared away, it’ll be a lot easier to figure out exactly what to wear to look on point and feel your best.

Black Tie Optional

For evening weddings, this is the most common dress-code. Basically, you can choose to wear a tux as it generally isn't required, but welcomed. I’d suggest going with a nice dark colored suit in a midnight blue or dark gray with a white shirt and a solid colored tie.

I’d encourage you to make style impact and wear a tux!

Cocktail Attie / Semi Formal

For weddings held in the afternoon or evening, formal attire is the typical dress code.

A neutral colored suit would work amazing for a daytime event. Go for a well-fitted collared shirt paired with a lightweight cotton suit or opt for a a blazer matched with chino pants and throw in a colorful shirt for a lively look. You don't necessarily have to wear a tie, but wearing one will definitely enhance your ensamble.

Beachside or Resort

Consider this a wide open category, making it a bit of a doozy to pinpoint the perfect look for the occasion. Before diving straight in, be sure to take into account the event's setting.

Afternoon gatherings like these usually lean towards a laid-back atmosphere, so I suggest leaning a bit more into the casualties.

Create a mix of a formal yet relaxed look with a dress shirt, khaki pants, a light-weight tie, and loafers.

To add interest, throw in a fun color pocket square and you’re good to go.
